Hey Sweets!
If I would have to chose a handful of superfoods I can rely upon, Spirulina would definitely top the list.
For those who haven’t heard about it, Spirulina is a type of blue-green algae which is rich in antioxidants, B vitamins, iron, copper, and manganese. So, ideally it helps you reduce inflammation, strengthen your bones, helps you with iron deficiency AND makes you sleep better! Whoa! But the bullet points do not end here. There is much more and, I will discuss about it in a while.
So, how did i hear about it?
I came to know about this Superfood from ‘Medical Medium’ Anthony William‘s book, ‘Liver Rescue’.
Before we move ahead to know what recipes I tried, let’s see how Spirulina can help you in a long run!
- Spirulina is high is protein and vitamins. So, for people like me who are vegan, it serves a better purpose of adding these without any notable side effects. (Mind it, it does have side effects too if taken in excess.)
- Spirulina improves metabolism. Therefore, if you are someone who struggles with low energy and fatigue, it can be a game changer!
- It lowers the blood pressure. A study suggests that Spirulina can lowers cholesterol levels which in turn could help control a person’s blood pressure too.
- Since it is rich in antioxidants, it tones the skin and promote a more youthful-looking complexion. Yaay!
- Anthony Willliam in his book ‘Liver rescue‘ says that Spirulina stops viral and bacterial growth inside the liver and revitalizes the organ. A bonus point for people with fatty lever!
But how to make it taste better?
- Papaya Spirulina Smoothie:- Mix one cup of ripe Papaya with 1 teaspoon of Spirulina, juice of 1 lime and black salt to taste. You can add water too to dilute the thickness. That’s it!
- Cashew Spirulina Drink:– Soak 1 cup of raw cashew in water for about 2-3 hours. Now add it to the blender with 1/2 teaspoon of Spirulina, 1/2 cup of maple syrup, pinch of black salt, juice of 1 lime and mix. Stir and enjoy!
- Spirulina Protein power bites:- This recipe is taken from veganinsanity.
com and husband absolutely loved it. So, here is goes! Mix 1 cup dates, with 1/2 cup cranberries, 2 tablespoon Spirulina, and 3/4 cup almonds in blender or food processor. Roll them into balls and enjoy these on the go snack for 2 weeks! (Below picture is taken from the same website.
Now, here is a piece of advice! (Don’t ignore this please!)
Initially, when I started using Spirulina, I would not bother about the quantity AND would take 2-3 table spoons in water. And that was bad! I would run to loo for around 10-11 times! Since I was taking few more supplements during that time, it took me few weeks to figure out that the culprit was this green algae stuff! Later my nutritionist suggested me to reduce the dosage and see if it’s still hard on my stomach. Finally, after a week of trial and error, I found the correct dosage for my body, i.e 1/2 teaspoon a day.
Therefore, here are my 2 cents to end this article.
Happy munching!
I’m satisfied with the information that you provide for me and thanks

I heard about Spirulina long ago but haven’t tried yet. It is also available in capsule form but I fear they are adulterated somehow in India.
